The conservation area was created in 1991 to include the whole of the Strutt’s Park area proper. It extends to embrace the Five Lamps road junction, the eastern end of Kedleston Road, both sides of Duffield Road and the area around Burleigh Drive to the west. The area is now also part of the ‘buffer zone’ for the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
Whilst much of the architectural attraction of the area stems from the mixed nature of the development, it also includes some features of particular historical and architectural note, such as:
Saint Alkmund’s well in Well Street. The Italianate terrace in North Parade.Saint Mary’s Church (designed by Pugin).Saint Helen’s House (designed by Pickford).Kingston Terrace in Edward Street.114 Duffield Road (an Arts & Crafts design by the firm of Parker & Unwin).145 Duffield Road (an Art Deco design).
