The Committee 2012 - 2013
Dear Sirs,
I am writing on behalf of the Strutt's Park Residents' Association (SPRA), to which representations have been made concerning the dangerous practice of north-bound vehicles making the prohibited move of turning right from the bottom of Duffield Road, at the Five Lamps junction, into Belper Road.
Although the road markings discourage this movement, there is no physical barrier to prevent it and it seems that an increasing number of drivers are recklessly turning here to avoid driving up Duffield Road to gain access to Belper Road at its top end.
Is there anything that can be done to reinforce the prohibition on this right turn?
Yours,
Clive Lemmon Secretary to SPRA
Dear Mr Lemmon,
Traffic Management Enquiry – Location: Duffield Road/Belper Road
Thank you for your recent email regarding vehicles turning right from the bottom of Duffield Road into Belper Road.
I have investigated this matter and have found that there is a traffic regulation order in place that prohibits the right turn into Belper Road at this point on Duffield Road. At present however it is unenforceable because the traffic regulation order requires a no right turn sign to be in place. When the traffic regulation order was first created a decision was made not to install a sign as the layout of the road does not encourage this manoeuvre and consideration was also given to the areas conservation status.
If several residents have passed on their concerns to you regarding this it may be that we should now consider providing a no right turn sign so we can inform the Police and arrange some enforcement of this offence.
I am proposing to place a no right turn side on a single traffic sign post set to the back of the footway on Duffield Road alongside the litter bin. I have attached a drawing showing the location of where the sign will be placed.
I would be interested to know what the Strutts Park Resident’s Association think of my proposal.
Regards
Andrew Jones - Traffic Management Technician
